I was watching the Westminster Dog Show on Monday, and my Pennypup was enthralled by the dogs on TV. I really had no idea that dogs could see and comprehend images on TV.
I remember reading a book about dog intelligence a few years ago. It discussed the fact that dogs can see BBC TV better b/c of the way they shoot footage (resolution, I'm guessing?). The book was written in the late 90's (I think). I'm guessing HD probably makes it easier for dogs to watch TV. Stella seems to be able to see non-HD stuff better than Argo. I put a Benji movie on Netflix Watch Instantly for her once - it was the first time she'd ever noticed a dog on TV and she got so excited watching Benji run across a field that she fell off the bed. Argo didn't respond at all. But HD nature docs always get his attention.

I spend the majority of my time making up stories about people who don't really exist. I'm lucky that the people I love call this creative instead of crazy. Dutton published my first novel, STAY, in 2010, and it's now a Plume paperback!

That's so cool. I always wonder if dogs watch TV. They probably get about as much out of it as I do.
